Santa Fe Wood Flooring is a wood flooring company serving Santa Fe, NM and the surrounding communities, with more than 20 years of experience sanding, repairing and installing hardwood and engineered floors. We work in older in-town houses with oak strip under the carpet, newer homes with engineered plank over radiant heat, rentals, condominiums and houses being readied for sale.

What ties that work together is a simple habit: we measure before we recommend. A floor tells you a lot through a moisture meter, a straightedge and a look underneath, and those readings, not a guess, decide what we propose.

Our Approach

Most wood floor trouble here is a humidity problem before it is anything else. When a customer calls about gaps, checking or a floor that squeaks every winter, we read the moisture in the boards and the room first and leave a written indoor humidity target with the recommendation. Before any new floor is ordered, the wood, the subfloor and any concrete slab are tested, and the numbers go on the estimate. Over radiant floor heat, we plan to the NWFA radiant heat guidelines, which cap the floor surface at 80 degrees Fahrenheit and limit temperature changes to 5 degrees a day, and we acclimate reclaimed and wide plank boards to the house before they go down.

We also try to leave a floor looking as if nothing was ever wrong with it. Doorways where wood meets Saltillo tile, brick or flagstone get a planned transition rather than a lip. Openings left by old floor furnaces and wall heaters are filled with boards woven into the surrounding rows. Water damage is traced to its source and documented with photos and readings an adjuster can use.

In houses built before 1978 we follow lead-safe work practices before any old finish is sanded, and our finishes are chosen to meet federal VOC limits, with low-odor waterborne options for homes that stay occupied.

For owners of rental property, we write itemized estimates a landlord can use when itemizing deposit deductions within New Mexico’s 30-day window, and we schedule short-term rental work around bookings with a written cure schedule. For condominium owners, we read the declaration with you before planning the floor.
